POST 10: English Language Challenges

Hey guys!!

Today I’ll talk about my English language challenges and also this is the last blog of the semester.

First of all, my experience learning English at the university was very funny and I really enjoy it. In English III we learned about the different stories of Caribbean countries for example Grenada and Haiti. I think it was a very good way to learn English. For English IV we apply the English for different topics and situation you can face in your daily life and this is very useful. Also the blogs are a very good tool for practice the writing because is a very difficult skill and the topics about them was very interesting.

I think I have difficulties for speak this language but not to understand it. For example, I can understand a conversation but being part it is difficult to me. And for develop this skill I need to listen more conversation, read more books in English, also watch TV Series in English could help me be better speaking English.

Finally, outside the English classes I practice a lot my English, because I follow youtubers from the United States and the United Kingdom and I watch them without subtitles and I could understand the majority of things they said. Also I watch TV series like Rick and Morty or How I met your mother without subtitles for learn and listen this language. Besides I watch the WWE in English for learn more vocabulary and enjoy a good show.

POST 9: Changes to my study programme

Hey guys

Today I will talk about changes that I want to do in my study programme.

First of all, I like a lot my actual study programme, I think we’ve a lot of interesting subjects for example geology, hidrology, climatology, etc, but the problem is with the elective subject, because we have a very short offer of physics subject, and for me is more interesting this type of subject.

My favorite subject is related with GIS, for example introduction to GIS, application in GIS or applied geomorphology because for me is easy to understand.

Nevertheless, I think that we don’t have a very useful subject, I don’t if have a name, but could be named “computing” and the contents of this subject would learn all about excel and the basic knowledgement of programming, for GIS know a little of programming is very useful because you can do your own toolbar and work more fast.

For me the workload is more light the first semester because we had mathematics and physics with contents very similar that I’ve in my school. But the load grows up every semester and now the workload is very heavy :(.

The length of study depends of the time you take for do your thesis, could be one semester, one year or more, is very relative.

Finally I’ll talk about the faculty facilities. First I think we need a better lab for geography because the current is very small. Second the free computer lab also is very small and in the final weeks of the semester is always full. And third we have professor that his way of teaching is obsolete.

POST 7: TV shows and series

Hey guys!!

Today I’ll talk about my favorite TV series.

To be honest I like a lot watch series in my free time, is relaxing and also serves for distract of the university. In this moment I’ve a lot of series that I like for example Game of Thrones, Aguila Roja, Hunter x Hunter and Rick and Morty, but one I think is the most wonderful anime: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

I like and I enjoyed this series because is a very good story and the character are very interesting. Also the animation is good and the colors are very light, this nice to look at. My favorite character was Scar, a young ishbalan man who lose all at the civil war and he want a vengeance.

In general I like the fantasy genre, is more interesting for me and also the historic genre, a lot of people recommends me a lot Vikings but I didn’t see yet. Also the last year I watch a lot of anime, like Haikyuu, Boku Dake, Evangelion and Mob Psycho 100, and I enjoyed a lot this anime. The stories are very amazing and the animation is very nice.

Finally, I’ve a very big list of series that I want to watch The first on my list is Lost because a friend has insisted for 2 years to see it. Also I want watch One Piece because I listen that is a very good anime. And I need watch the second season of Stranger Things but I’ve a lot of things to do and I don’t wanna lose my time.

POST 6: Postgraduate studies

Hey guys!!

Today i’ll talk about a postgraduate study: Antarctic science with mention in glaciology.

The principal reason is I really like this area of glaciology, I’ve a subject the last semester and I really enjoy it and will be interesting learn more about that.

This master is related to the Antarctica, so we need to learn about that. We need to have subject like geology, glaciology, climatology, oceanography of the area and also learn more about remote sensing because this area is important for know all the changes that suffer the glacier.

If the course is related with the Antarctica, will be interesting do this course in Punta Arenas to be near the study area. On the other hand, if I want to go to another country will Argentina, in a city of the Patagonia.

I’d like the course will in-person, because for me is more easy learn about a subject.

And if it possible, could be interesting learn about glacier in a northern country, for example study the glaciers of Canada in any university of study in Greenland.

Also, I’d like to do a course of geomatics, I think this area is very interesting for me a learn more about it is amazing. The GIS is, for me, the most interesting area of geography for the large number of applications they may have.

POST 5: My future job

Hey guys!

Today I’ll talk about my future job in geography.

The geography discipline is a very complete study area, because you’ve to do work indoor or outdoor and I like both. For example I could work in GIS related to an office or dedicate myself as a geomorphologist and work outdoor.

When I was a child I think geography consist in doing maps, but with the passage of time I learn the geography is more complex than only do maps. In school I learn about landscape and demography, after that I learn the climatology of Chile at the high school and a little bit of fundamentals of physical geography. With all of those areas I think my job will be amazing.

As I said before, the geography enables work outside and inside an office, but I prefer the field work because is very important for my education and is very fun.

Also I think this job could let me travel around the country, and why not around the world. Travelling is one of my favorites activities and visit the five continents one of my personal objective.

About the salary is complicated because I need to have a good life and in the future have a family and practically all depends on money (L).

For the future is very important to continue studying because every day are born new techniques that will allow a better development as a professional.

Finally a thing of be geographer is that the world is in constant change and I can study that.

POST 4: Books

Hey guys!!

Today I'll talk about the book.

First of all my favorite author is Nicanor Parra because his lyric poetry and the style for write them are very interesting and particular. The anti-poetry is my favorite topic of lyrical poetry..

On the other hand, I like read books related with the science fiction. For example, one of my favorite books is 1984 write by George Orwell or Brave new world of Aldous Huxley. Nevertheless I read a lot of manga for example for my travels Osorno – Santiago I read the manga of Shingeki no Kyojin and at the strike I read the manga of Neon Genesis Evangelion, one of my favorite anime.

My favorite book is a graphic novel of Art Spiegelman named Maus. Is story of the father of the author who survive the Holocaust at the World War II. One of the special feature of this book is the character are represented by animals, for example the Jewish are the mouse and the Germans are the cats, and that represent the pursuit of the Nazis. Also the pigs are the Polish and the dogs are the Americans are the dogs (who pursuit the cats). It’s absolutely recommended if you like the history of the World War II.

POST 3: My favorite movie

Hey guys!!

Today I will talk about my favorite movie: A Clockwork Orange.

Really I’ve a lot of film that I like, for example Star Wars, Harry Potter, Finding Nemo, Into the wild, very different film from a lot of topics. But I think A Clockwork Orange is special because it mixes various elements that make it a very good film. For example the psychology of Alex DeLarge, the main character, or the political implication of the Ludovico Technique made this a very good story. Also the soundtrack of the movie is awesome; the music of “Ludwig van” is a good complement for development of the movie.

Talking about cinema in general only one genre I didn’t like: the musical. I think they are very boring I hate this topic of movie.

The most recent movie I saw is Dunkirk, at the cinema, a film of Christopher Nolan. I thing is a very good film, it’s a good audiovisual experience, for example the sound of shots are very loud or the way the story is told and how told a story with few dialogues.

POST 2: The best holidays

Hey guys!!

Today I’ll talk about the best holidays I ever had.

My best holidays was in 2014, when I went to France for my study trip. We traveled around France for 24 days in January, at the European winter. We stayed in Paris, Saint-Malo, Tours, Toulouse, Barcelona (the only city out of France), Nîmes, Nantes and Paris again.

For this travel I went with my classmates of the French School of Osorno, the experience of travel with my friend are very amazing for know their better, and also we travel with 3 teachers of the school.

The principal activity we have in this is travel is walk around the city and visit the principal buildings, churches or museums. For example in Saint-Malo (the most beautiful city we visit) we go to the Omaha Beach, place where the D-Day has made and also we visit the Mont Saint-Michel.

I think is my best holiday because I travel to another country and I did the travel with my friends, which was really cool. Also I could visit the Camp Nou stadium of my favorite team the FC Barcelona and the visit to Disney World Paris was awesome.

POST 1: A country I'd like to visit

Hey guys!!

Today I’ll talk about a country I’d like to visit

Well, a country that I’d like to visit is Scotland because I love the landscapes they have and also I like a lot the culture of this country.

About Scotland I know that his capital is Edimburgh, but the largest city is Glasgow, and they takes part in the United Kingdom with Wales, Northern Ireland and England, therefore they use the pound sterling.

In Scotland I’d like to visit all the church they have also walk through the Highlands. Also if it’s possible go to the Old Firm, the match between Celtic and Rangers FC, two teams based in Glasgow and they are the team with more titles in Scotland, also is a derby because Celtic represent the Catholics and Rangers represent the protestant. Finally I’d like visit the museums for learn about the history of this country.

I really like study there, because the landscapes of Scotland are very interesting for investigate them in geography, the origin, the composition, the morphology and the geomorphology are subjects very interesting for study
